Dr. Belinda Wallace, the first speaker in the Africana Studies' Emerging Scholars Lecture Series, will be presenting "Stab Out Me Meat: Sexual Politics in Dancehall Culture" on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 7:00 pm in room 204E of Evans Library.
Dr. Wallace's presentation will focus on reading the female black body as "text" in contemporary reggae and dancehall culture. Her presentation, "Stab Out Me Meat: Sexual Politics in Dancehall Culture," takes its title from Lady Saw a Jamaican reggae singer regarded as the "first lady of Dancehall." Wallace's work will evaluate the gender politics of Dancehall culture and by proxy a highly intriguing part of Caribbean culture.
