Areas of Interest:

Marian Eide's area of concentration is twentieth-century literature in English with a focus on gender studies and ethical theory. Her book Ethical Joyce was published in 2002 by Cambridge University Press and is currently available in paperback. She has also published several articles in twentieth-century literature including "Witnessing and Trophy Hunting" in Criticism and "The Woman of the Ballyhoura Hills: James Joyce and the Politics of Creativity" in Twentieth Century Literature (reprinted in the Norton Critical Edition of James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man). She is currently researching violence in twentieth-century aesthetics. Eide's course offerings regularly include modernist literature, feminist theory, and global studies.
