What does a faculty advisor to a Fellow do?
Because the thesis the Fellow will write should reflect the quality of work expected from Texas A&M University honors students and should be developed as a paper that could be published in a reputable scholarly journal in the student’s academic field, the Fellow will depend on his faculty advisor to help him meet these high standards and to maintain accountability. Therefore, a faculty advisor to a University Fellow is strongly urged to participate actively in his or her student’s research, presentations, and thesis writing. This participation, more specifically, includes the following:Attending all Fellows advisor gatherings (or sending a representative if advisor cannot attend)
- Informational meeting for advisors (early September)
- Research presentations (one set in the fall and one set in the spring semesters on student’s research progress)
- Honors convocation (mid September)
- Symposium (final research presentations in mid April)
- Honors recognition ceremony—optional (early May)
Moderating two groups of research presentations
- Advisors will receive a presentation schedule before the fall semester begins and will be asked to choose two groups to moderate.
