Tips for Creating Effective Report Titles

1. Consider title length: not too long or too short.

2. Use precise wording and identify or suggest action (tell what was done or what you want the reader to be able to do from the reading the report).

            NOT "Amino Acid-Kaolinite Reactions"

BUT "Determining Rate of Adsorption of Amino Acids on Kaolinite in Ethyl Alcohol"

3. Include the purpose in the title: why you did what you did.

4. Avoid acronyms, abbreviations, and citations.

5. Capitalize the first letter of each word in the title, excluding articles, prepositions, and linking verbs.
