Father And Daughter

By Kenneth Pobo

Stacy tells me about how
her dad came out to her
two years ago. She was 20.
She says that her dad is
still her hero. She's married
and her dad's in a relationship.
They meet for lunch
on South Street in Philadelphia,
one of the few streets there
where we can almost walk
without looking behind us
to see bashers. They're not
like Brando in West Side Story.
They're more like men
with baseball caps and t-shirts,
suburban kids who've mainlined
hate for so long,
only another attack,
another fix,
will satisfy them.
